Lawrence Power

Director/Founder

As one of today’s foremost performers Lawrence Power is in demand all over the world.  He has been travelling and performing with the world’s greatest orchestras and musicians for the last twenty years. Passionate about reaching out and finding new audiences, Âme Productions is an exciting extension of his life in the performing arts - a new and bold way to collaborate across the Arts, creating and sharing live performances on film.

He is the most recent recipient of the prestigious

Royal Philharmonic Society Instrumentalist of the Year award. As Concerto Soloist he is regularly invited to perform with such orchestras as Chicago / Boston Symphonies, Royal Concertgebouw, Gurzenich Köln, Philharmonia and others.  As a passionate advocate of New Music he frequently performs many new works written for him by today’s greatest living composers.

As a recording artist he has created an extensive discography, recently receiving a Gramophone Award, BBC Music Magazine Award and a Grammy for his work.

With his intelligent approach to programming, he is often invited to work with venues and festivals as curator. He has enjoyed residencies with BBC Radio 3, Turner Sims Southampton and with Aalborg Symphony Orchestra, served as Artist in Residence with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and curated a concert series at Kings Place. He founded and serves as Artistic Director of West Wycombe Chamber Music Festival.

His recent collaborations with the filmmaker

Jessie Rodger have included the critically acclaimed Lockdown Commissions - a series of works written for him by some of today’s greatest composers, filmed at empty iconic British venues. This exciting collaboration now sees them becoming co-founders of Âme.

Co-Founder/Creative Director

Martin Creed was the first person I interviewed as an aspiring journalist almost 10 years ago to this day. From a Sicilian hide-out the artist was generous with his time and advice -

Do what makes you scared.

Make it bigger.

Be nice.

10 years later it is not words I write but films I make and it is with these 3 sentences in mind that I set out on the first project with Âme.

As a filmmaker I work with a wide variety of artists and organisations, including 59 Productions, DT+, Philharmonia Orchestra and Manchester Collective. Collaborating with these artists is what I love most about making films.

Music is often the focus of my work and I find it increasingly important to think about the way the camera connects performer with audience - how do you tailor the act of recording to maximise the interest for the person watching and transform them from observer to more active in the experience?

Over the past couple of years I have really enjoyed working with Lawrence Power on a series of extended films and projects, including the Lockdown Commissions. This collaboration has changed my creative approach to filmmaking and I am excited to see where the combination of Lawrence’s creativity as a world-class violist and my perspective as a filmmaker will take Âme’s future projects.
